January 31, 2020 URGENT ADVOCACY ALERT Last night the Ohio House of Representatives voted to delay the application window for the 2020-21 school year for new applicants for the traditional EdChoice Scholarship Program. If the Ohio Senate agrees, this change would push the application window for new students back from February 1 to April 1. Presumably, the 60-day delay would be used to craft legislation that would eventually reduce or eliminate completely students’ ability to receive a scholarship.
Please make calls now to your state senator and urge them to open the application window for vouchers as soon as possible. Tell them that:
- Changing the rules at this late date is just wrong.
- Delaying any changes for 60 days is unacceptable. It will pull the rug out from under tens of thousands of families. This is unconscionable. Families must be able to apply on Feb. 1 or next week at the latest.
- Families cannot wait 60 days to find out about their child’s educational future.
- If you are concerned about potential financial impact to districts, vote to provide funding to districts, but do not take opportunities away from Ohio students.
Contact your Senator now and ask them to reject the House proposal!
