Testing week can be an anxious time for students, as their regular schedule is interrupted and the school day as they know it changes. You can help our child/ren alleviate some of this anxiety by doing the following:
- Talk to your child/ren about testing week and reassure them in a positive way. We have renamed this week a “Celebration of Learning Week” by “Showing What You Know!”
- Remain calm and discuss the confidence you have in your children.
- Give your child/ren a nutritious breakfast each day of the test, but don’t make an issue if they refuse to eat.
- Don’t argue or have an upsetting conversation the mornings of testing. Try to keep the morning routine the same.
- Make sure your child/ren gets a good night sleep each night.
- Celebrate the end of testing week for yourself and your child/ren.
- It is important to note that your child/ren will only gain anxiety and apprehension if they try studying for these tests. For this reason, St. Thomas More School has a NO HOMEWORK policy for this week for all those taking the test. While a “No Homework policy” exists, there may be some additional testing for normal classwork occurring for which parents and students should be prepared.
