Dear Parents,

We live in a world inundated with technology. Whatever career path our students choose to pursue as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly hinge on understanding how technology works. But only a tiny fraction of us are learning Computer Science, and fewer students are studying it now than they were a decade ago.

That’s why our entire school is joining the largest learning event in history: The Hour of Code, being held during Computer Science Education Week (Dec. 8-14). Last year, 15 million students were able to explore Computer Science in just one week. This year, we are joining students worldwide to reach 100 million students!

Every student should have the opportunity to learn Computer Science. It helps nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity.  Our Hour of Code is a statement that St. Thomas More School is ready to teach these foundational 21st century skills. To give our junior high students an opportunity to further enhance these skills, we will have an after-school Computer Club which will begin after the Christmas holidays.

See http://hourofcode.com/us for details, and help spread the word.

Sincerely,

Candace Hurley
