Required Summer Workbook for Students in Grades K-2

Primary teachers in Grades K-2 are requiring students to complete a summer workbook.  Research shows that when students are not engaged in educational or enriching activities during the summer they may lose up to 4 months of skills. It has been proven that it can take anywhere from 1-3 months to catch students back up in the Fall.

K-2 students will need to get the Summer Bridge Activities book. *We understand that some may have already purchased Summer Solutions books since the information was already sent out in the Cardinal Corner. We will honor these books if your student completes the Reading and/or the Math book.*

It is expected that each student completes five days’ worth of lessons each week during the summer. Each lesson should take about 15-30 minutes to complete and should be done independently, with some parental help for directions.  The book contains a variety of math, reading, writing, science, social studies, fitness, and character lessons. The Summer Bridge book costs $10. All  books are a review of the skills the children have learned this past year.  Please check your child’s work, as one skill builds upon the last. Answers may be found in the back of the book for parental assistance if needed.

It is our goal to complete the first five days of the book during our last week of school. By doing this, we hope that your child will better understand what they need to do over the summer and get into a routine of completing the lessons each day. Your child will be expected to turn the summer workbook in by the end of the first week of school in August. They will turn in their workbook to their new teacher. Each student who completes his/her summer workbook will be given a “Super Summer Scholar” certificate announced at morning prayer. The students who complete their entire workbook will also receive an ice cream party by the end of the first month of school!
