Promotion and Graduation

ST. THOMAS MORE

POLICIES

TITLE: 409.01.01 Promotion and Graduation

Promotion in the primary grades (Kindergarten through grade 3) is determined by the child's progress in language arts (reading and English) and mathematics. Promotion in grades 4-8 is determined by the child's progress in the core curriculum (religion, language arts, math, science and social studies). Students who fail a class in the core curriculum will be required to participate in a structured program of study in the subject area over the summer. Students who fail two subjects in the core curriculum will not be promoted to the next grade. Any plan of remediation intended to satisfy promotional requirements must be submitted, in writing, to the principal in advance. Parents who request that their child be assigned to the next grade without meeting promotional standards will be required to sign a waiver releasing the school from academic liability. St. Thomas More reserves the right to refuse any such request if, in the opinion of the professional staff, doing so would jeopardize the well-being of the student or class
