The
school is an important ministry of the parish. Bringing children to the
Catholic faith, with its rich tradition of liturgical and prayer
experiences, gospel values and community service is the reason for our
school. All-school liturgies,
attended by students in Grades 1-8 (and sometimes Kindergarten), are
celebrated every Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. and at 8:30 a.m. on
holy days of obligation. The students prepare for the liturgy at a
weekly all-school music practice and in their classrooms. Classes
rotate throughout the year in planning the school liturgies. Prayer
services are held monthly, usually in observance of special occasions.
During the church season of Lent, the Stations of the Cross are prayed
weekly to commemorate the passion and death of Jesus. Also during Lent,
our junior high students participate in a Day of Renewal, led by high
school seniors from McNicholas High School who have participated in a
Kairos experience.
Throughout the school year, outreach projects are conducted to benefit
those in need both in our local and global communities. These efforts
help to promote an atmosphere of charity within the school and a
lifelong commitment to community service.
The Youth Ministry of St. Thomas
More Parish encourages all students in grades 6-8 to participate in the
junior high ministry in order to learn the necessary skills to bring
them closer to Christ and their faith community. They will explore the
challenges of life through sharing their experiences and learning the
prayer strategies to further develop a Christian lifestyle. They will
participate in activities and events, which will inspire and encourage
them to share their spirituality with others in the community. Meetings
are held on Sunday night from 7-9 p.m. Summer sessions are also planned.
Events and activities include local field trips, overnight lock-ins,
making rosaries for the mission and our troops.
